The Duconta calculator, made by Ducati in 1940s

May be most of you know Ducati motorcycles.
Ducati won many world championship of GP, and it’s quite often on podium with its motorcycles.
But you could surprised to know that Ducati in his history also built razors, micro cameras, field telephones, radio equipment and optical equipment for the Army.

And also calculators, this mechanical calculator Duconta.

Duconta means Ducati counts, in Italian.

Ducati started his history in the 1920s, when three Ducati brothers decided to start a company building condenser for radios, the “Società Scientifica Radio”.

In the 1930s year Ducati build also tires, rubber gloves.

But their specialization was the precision mechanics.

So in the 1940s years Ducati started to build also a calculator, this Duconta.

It consisted of around 1000 of pieces assembled together which required the Ducati workers to carry out a long precision assembly process.
