Olivetti 84 (1962)

The Olivetti 84 and other typewriter of the same design, of that era

The Olivetti 84 is a very heavy typewriter (28 kg), from 1962. In the video below I will show also other 4 Olivetti office typewriters of that period, related to this one. All of these are the same colour, light blue. The era of the black typewriters was finished.

The Olivetti 84, built by Olivetti from 1961, it’s not the first electric typewriter made by Olivetti. In 1950 Olivetti made the Lexikon 80E, almost ten years before that they presented the model 84.

The Olivetti Lexikon 80E has rounded shapes, similar to the ones of the Lexikon 80, built from 1949. But the Olivetti 84 is inspired by the squared design of the Diaspron 82 built from 1959. With the Olivetti 84 the body lines were modified, moving from the rounded shapes of the Lexikon series, to one characterized by the squared and geometric edges of the Diaspron 82. Also the Olivetti Raphael produced from 1961 had similar mechanics, with the squared line design of theDiaspron 82 and Olivetti 84.

You can see all these Olivetti typewriter in the video here.
