Royal 10 typewriter

Royal 10, the typewriter of the Stephen King’s book “Misery”.

The typewriter Royal 10 is very interesting. It has been in production for a very long time, from 1913 to the beginning of 1930s, with most changes being only aesthetic.

Together with Underwood 5, it’s one of the best sold typewriters ever built, around 1000000 Royal 10 sold.

This model is from 1916, a very early model, it has 2 windows on the sides, later models has only one window.

This typewriter Royal 10 has been used in the movie “Misery”, based on a book of Stephen King, where a writer, Paul Sheldon, have a car accident. The Royal 10 helps Paul to stay alive, because he can write the book, and in the end the typewriter is used by Paul to stun Annie, thus saving his life. The Royal 10 is very often framed in the foreground of the movie.

It seems this typewriter is particularly loved by writers, because it was used also by Ernest Hemingway.
