Seidel & Naumann model Ideal

A nice typewriter from 1920

This is a Seidel & Naumann typewriter, it’s a “IDEAL Model C”, from 1920.

It’s a traditional German typewriter, heavy and robust, with a black and red ribbon and the tabulator.

In the end of the 19th century many companies already good in mechanics, decided to build also typewriters, since at those times typewriters were all a mechanical issue. Since these companies were already expert in mechanics all they needed was a good engineer expert in typewriters.

For example Remington built rifles, and started to build also typewriters.

Seidel & Naumann was founded in 1868 in Dresden, Germany, and initially was a producer of sewings machines on Singer licence.

Soon the company became the biggest producer of sewing machines in Germany. In 1892 started to build bicycles, then spidòmeters for locomotives, jukeboxes and motorcycles.

And in 1900, thanks to a cooperation with E. Barney, a Remington engineer, started the production of typewriters.
